LEAN is the set of tools that assist in the identification and steady elimination of waste, with the results that quality is improved, and production time and costs are reduced.
SIX SIGMA asserts continuous efforts to reduce variation in process outputs is key to business success, manufacturing and business processes can be measured, analyzed, improved and controlled, and succeeding at achieving sustained quality improvement requires commitment from the entire organization, particularly from top-level management.

The intention is to identify future-state objectives, relate them to specific goals that can be achieved through critical success factors or performance drivers which are then monitored and measured by key performance indicators. Through this hierarchy, we can define and communicate relationships between metrics and how they contribute to the achievement of organizational goals and objectives.
